water safety tips save child's lifeOur children need to feel safe and secure, even at home. But there are certain situations where we as parents cannot safeguard our children. Drowning is one of tose situations.

Children consider the swimming pool in their backyard as the fun place to spend with their family. For them, the swimming pool is a place where they can see their family having fun together and they can’t even imagine having any bad experiences. They are fearless and can understand only having fun. For those of us who are parents, we should plan out everything to ensure the safety of our children.

The New Year is here and there are more chances of spending an ample amount of time in our backyards, especially with all the things that will take place outdoors. On the other hand, when we are in our homes, we can control everything that happens inside. It is our responsibility to provide a safe and secure environment for our kids at home wherein they feel comfortable.

Pool Safety can be described with a number of different steps. If one step is missed out there must be another step as a back-up to put everything in place. In this New Year, we should provide a failsafe pattern accompanying multiple ways as a backup protection.

Creating a swimming pool in our backyards is indeed a lot of fun but comes with a lot of responsibility, too. Children are innocent and everything that happens to them and with them is solely based on our decisions. So, everything should be planned systematically.

The First Step towards child’s security is direct parental control. It’s important that we set some rules for ourselves so that our focus is never diverted from keeping an eye on our children. According to studies, 69% of drowning cases occur when either the mom and dad or both were carelessly taking care of monitoring their child. So, this is a lesson for us that our supervision should be designed and followed in steps.

The Second Step towards the protection of your child is having locks installed at higher levels on all of your home doors as well as gates that open to the backyard. In case your children are old enough to reach the locks, then you can hide the keys so that they seek your permission if they want to go outdoors.

The Next Step towards child’s safety is having safety alarms installed on all doors and gates that open to the backyard. Most homeowners have an alarm system installed with a bell/ringing mode feature that alerts the homeowner in case a window or door is opened. Some people find these alarms irritating and don’t choose to use them. Well, these alarms are doing their job and they are alerting you for your security that you may be neglecting. You should adjust to their sounds as it is matter of saving a life.

The Fourth Atep would ideally be a pool fence that obstructs the way to the swimming pool. Idealy, there should be self-closing and self-latching gate there. The fence should be constructed as per the height codes and regulations in your local area. There should be no access to chairs and/or tables near the fence. You can have a see through fence to see the pool from outside. Some people believe that a pool fence spoils the view of the pool, but they need to understand that it is a matter of your child’s safety. A pool fence is the most important step towards promoting a child’s safety.

A pool alarm is yet another Step and device that makes sound even if there are unusual changes in the water. The pool alarm sounds right at the pool and inside your home. The sound mechanism is incorporated with a safety purpose to make you head to the pool and switch off the alarm mode and check the pool. A pool alarm is always an effective addition to a pool fence and should not be neglected.

Survival lessons for swimming are really crucial for your children znd are our Sixth and Final Step. These lessons should start right after your child learns to crawl. There are different programs available for teaching survival lessons for swimming and not all swim instructors can teach infants to swim. If you live in the Houston area, we highly recommend Swimsprout Of Texas.

A failsafe is an effective plan with multiple layers for backing. So, for a drowning case to happen, it’s likely that no one was properly supervising the child… the door by mistake remained open… the door alarm was uninstalled… the pool fence was removed or not properly installed… the pool alarm was uninstalled or turned off… the child never took swimming lessons… When you consider pool safety for your children you must think about even the smallest things. And, you certainly need multiple backups.

A family can have a nice pool time only when they are equipped with multiple layers for backing their safety.

If you are living in our great city of Houston, you still have time to plan pool safety for spring… DON’T Wait, DO IT NOW!
