There is nothing more tragic in life than the loss of a life due to accidents that could easily be avoided. Life is always precious, but there are certain deaths that
can be labeled as tragic due to the way they occur. That was the case for Emeline Miller, the infant daughter of Olympic skier Bode Miller.
Bode Miller is one of the most decorated skiers in the world and the top in the US with 33 wins at world cups. He also achieved six Olympic medals in his career and four world championships. This has been an incredibly successful career that allowed him to secure a good lifestyle for his family.
Perhaps one would think that tragedy would never knock on the door of such an accomplished individual, but this serves as a reminder that we are all only one step away from glory or from tragedy regardless of what we have done or what we have achieved.
Young Children Can Drown In A Few Seconds
Emeline was with her mother and she had her out of her sight only for a few minutes, but this was enough for her infant daughter to run towards the pool and start drowning. She was found within minutes in the neighbor’s pool and rescued, but it was too late. She died the next day in the hospital.
This is a reminder that pools are extremely dangerous for children and all pool owners should install fences around their pool area. If everyone started to install these fences and self-locking gates, the number of tragic deaths and near death incidents would significantly decrease.
Pool Security Is Critical
It’s very important to remember that pool safety is not only about awareness, but also about securing the area. Children and pets are the most likely victims of improper security in the pool area, but a fence can easily help get rid of this problem.
Children like Emeline Miller deserve to be safe in their neighborhoods. Any pool owner should consider the dangers of having no fence and no self-locking gates to protect their loved ones as well as their neighbor’s children.
